Ask Elm (Vol 4)

Welcome to the fourth edition of Ask Elm. I’m getting lots of questions now! To ask a question: CLICK HERE.

Answers to questions below the cut…

Hey, Elm! In Chapter 16, there seems to be a bug that wont let you click on the potions, and I cant get to the next chapter! Is there any way I can fix this?
-OakMarauder

Answer:

This hast to be a glitch. There should be no reason why you can not click on the potions. When I click a potion it slides forward and waits for me to select a second one. Once I have selected two it tells me if I’m totally wrong, half wrong, or totally right. If you can not get it to do any of these things you need to make a ticket with Pottermore help. (go to HELP -> OTHER -> WHAT’S NEXT? -> NEED MORE HELP?) In the mean time I know that some people have had luck getting things to load in different browsers. If you are using Internet Explorer I recommend you at least give it a go on FireFox or Chrome and maybe you’ll be able to load the moment fully in a different browser.

So my trunk says that i only have 15 books. I’ve looked up the list of where all the books are, and it looks as tho I’m missing one ( i know there is 16 books) when i look at the list of books i bought in diagon alley, there are a few missing in my trunk. For some reason, even though it says i bought The Dark Forces book, but it doesn’t show up in my trunk. WHY??
-Breeze

Answer:

Oh dear, I just noticed that mine is missing too! I am missing The Dark Forces: A Guide To Self-Protection, Magical Drafts and Potions, and The Standard Book of Spells (Grade 1). As I already know you are a Beta (HI SABRINA!!!) I can tell you that just before the site opened publicly a lot of people were reporting missing books. Looks like we have fallen victim to the glitch. And because you can not re-purchase these books the only thing I can suggest is to send in a help query (I just did). Go to HELP -> OTHER -> WHAT’S NEXT? -> NEED MORE HELP?

Another user did point out though that the books are still in your possession or you would not be able to brew potions or duel with the spells and potions they contain. But they did originally show in your trunk before the glitch occurred.

For a complete list of books, where to find them, and whether they will show up in your trunk CLICK HERE.

How do I collect the objects in chapters that glow pink? I have tried clicking on them but to no avail…
-Laura

Answer:

We have discussed this via e-mail, but I wanted it posted for others to see in case they are in the same boat. If you can not click on objects I recommend trying a different browser. Trying a different COMPUTER. E-mailing in through the help page notifying the Pottermore staff that you are glitched. (HELP -> OTHER -> WHAT’S NEXT? -> NEED MORE HELP?)

Thanks for answering my last question! I have one more that I’m hoping you have an answer for. When comparing trunk items with my friend I noticed that she has a vault key and I do not. Did I miss it somewhere?
-Chelsea

Answer:

I feel like I’m sounding like a broken record now. The key SHOULD store itself in your trunk after you have opened your Gringott’s vault. But I have been hearing since the beginning of the Beta about people who’s key’s have vanished. The only solution is to put in a query through the Pottermore help page (as I said, broken record). Go to HELP -> OTHER -> WHAT’S NEXT? -> NEED MORE HELP?

Hi! I was also a Beta tester (awesomeness) and I was wondering, do I need to do anything for the “active” site to be visible to me or for anything to change? Because I feel like it looks exactly the same and it still has BETA in the corner on the pages for feedback and such. Just wondering, I know I probably don’t have to but I was slightly confused. kthanksbye!
-Jenn

Answer:

I have to say, I chuckled a little bit when I realized that the Beta Feedback buttons were all over the site. Honestly, you aren’t going to see a difference, because your Beta account logs into the exact same site as the new public accounts. They never took down the beta buttons. A lot of Beta users expected a giant difference in the site when it opened, but it is the same site just with more people in it. They did, however, add sound a bit before opening. So if you haven’t re-visited the moments since they added sound I highly recommend you do so.

I expect we will see them yank down those Beta buttons soon, but I’m not sure how long it will take them to get on that.

Any tips for pottermore potion brewing?

Thanks Elm, i do see that when i open Potions, some of the other books appear there, but it’s still a little wonky. I’ll send a feedback message today.
