UPDATE:After just one short day of leaving us hanging, Pottermore announces that the cup will be awarded on July 5th!!
I’m a little surprised that it’s going out on a THURSDAY. But I am really excited they gave us a solid date. Listen to what the Insider had to say on the matter:

The reveal makes it sound like they have something grand in store!!! Very excited. Looks like my 4th of July will be full of earning points.

This morning Pottermore updated the Insider anouncing the inaugural Pottermore House Cup!! Heres what they had to say:
Pottermore students have been working hard on their potion-making and duelling skills to earn house points for their respective houses.
Those points have been gathering and, with the numbers building up to impressive heights, we can now announce that the Pottermore House Cup will be awarded soon!
The house with the greatest number of points will win the Pottermore House Cup, so keep up the duelling and brewing!
We’ll be posting updates regarding the Pottermore House Cup both on the Insider and on the Pottermore Gateway, but also somewhere else…
We’re pleased to announce that each Pottermore house now has its own noticeboard. Your house noticeboard can be found in your house’s common room on Pottermore – make sure you visit to stay up to date with the latest house news as we begin the countdown to the announcement of the Pottermore House Cup winner. It’s an exciting time, so keep up with your brewing and duelling!

Unfortunately they still didn’t give us an exact date as to when this would occur, I’m not that surprised by that as Pottermore doesn’t seem to like to post exact dates. BUT according to help:
The awarding of the House Cup is the biggest event in the Pottermore calendar. You will be given a few weeks’ notice before this momentous end-of-year ceremony takes place so that you can try to earn as many points as possible in the run-up to it. On the day, the house with the most points will be awarded the House Cup.
To see which house currently has the most points, check out the leaderboards in the Great Hall. You can also see which individual in your house has earned the most points.
So this is our few weeks notice, and it seems this might just be lining up with the end of summer when we suspect that Chamber of Secrets will be launched.

I can not wait for the house cup!!!!!! Since we Ravenclaws have almost no chance of winning I have to say I’m cheering on the Griffindors cause thats were my brother is. Do you think there will be anything extra that will happen then too? I sure hope so
Haveno idea why they’ve decided to decide the cup on a Thursday, but for Slytherin that isagood thing. It seems we always get behind on the weekend. Itooaminterested I how they are going to calculate it. There was an eight hour lag between dueling Hufflepuff and getting a result. It’s going to be a ride to the finish!
I would say not to duel hufflepuff the last day. There is an 8 hour delay in getting a response because their queue is over flowing and it is 8 hours until you are matched with a puff. So if they cut off dueling and you have not come to the top of the queue to be responded to it was wasted effort. The last 24 hours I will probably be dueling only Claws. You know, in hopes that the claws are still dueling and answering us.
That’s a wise word. I dueled the Puffs for about an hour and a half last night. When I checked this morning it took 12 hours for them to show up in my queue. I’ve dueled more claws today and even some Gryffs because it drives me nuts to wait so long for a result!
I understand why there is a lag but it is frustrating! Definitely won’t waste my duels on the last day.
Also … I read differing things about what is going to happen to our points. I’ll be sad if our point total is completely wiped clean. I’ve worked hard for all these points and I’d like a record of them somewhere. Do we know anything definitive about what is going to happen to our points once the cup is awarded? Thank you!
I think it’s very interesting. Sadly for the Ravenclaws like me, we have no chance at winning the House Cup simply due to our House population. If Pottermore counted the points by the “points per student” policy, Ravenclaw would be in the lead. However, I’ve given up all hope of pulling from behind and am now cheering for Slytherin. Go snakes?
Thank you for that! I have many Ravenclaw friends who have resorted to cheering us Slytherins on. We all know it should be you guys up there with us. Maybe next time.

Whoops! Thanks HawthornQuest, the irony is I just read this after scrolling down from updating to add the date to the blog. Why a Thursday do you think?
I dont know. But why did PM open to public at night?
My guess is that to many people at once can be realy bad, even on “the new platform that they moved to”
However, they anounced that there will be a “countdown”. Does it mean like a real countdown of remaining seconds? That would be awesome, and a lot of people would be online at the same time for that, so who knows what will happen. Wait for the next update!
The count down I make will count down to midnight July 5th BST. They’ve been posting updates around 11 am BST the past couple of days though so maybe we should be counting to that? Not sure. They launches in the wee hours in US but it wasn’t that early in UK.
If it’s midnight in BST, it will be 3am in my timezone. There’s no way my parents will let me stay awake
Honestly I doubt they will do it at midnight. Rarely have they done anything right at midnight. But without a time I think I shall count down to the day itself.
Well, there’s still a problem. Points go up and down every second. The REAL number of points is never known. So how can the Cup be awarded? Will they disable duels and potions BEFORE awarding the Cup?
I also wonder where will the new features be stored. Will they realystore it ALL in the first lock?

Elm, I’m Slytherin, beta and have 5888 points but this was the message I recieved:
The inaugural Pottermore House Cup will be awarded soon. In order to take part, you need to be Sorted into a house. Progress to Chapter 7 to experience the Sorting Ceremony. Once you’ve been Sorted, you will be able to enjoy your own house common room and keep up to date with the latest house news.
From what I can tell that notification has gone out to everyone, including house leaders. It’s actually quite an annoying notification because you cannot mark it as read. I believe it was put there for new users who are still not sorted. But don’t worry. I have it too.
Well, the snakes are in the lead now. But i’m sure that the lions ARE NOT SCRIPTED to win. Than again, we are living in the same timezone as Harry, Ron and Hermione (proved in one of your AskElms). So who knows?

Well…the only thing I think about the House Cup is that Slytherins should win. Mostly because nearly everyone wants us not to win. If we can’t win, at least the Hufflepuffs should win. If the Puffs don’t win then the Claws should. The Gryffindors got to win in the books and be heros. I think someone else should have the spotlight for Pottermore at least lol.
Worried its fixed so we can’t. We need to close this gap and keep it closed.

Also, I don’t know how it happened, but remember when we were neck to neck with the claws? And then the lions somehow gained millions of points within a couple days time? Enough to surpass the claws? It’s a bit unrealistic hahaha.
I don’t know how impossible that was. Population Burst o people picking up the chapter items might have been enough.
