Hello my fellow Pottermore enthusiast and welcome to Blog of a Pottermore Beta’s Countdown to the Cup!
WHAT TIME UPDATE (7-4-2012 @ 10:34 pm EST): Seeing a lot of talk on the social networks and on Pottermore about when people think that the cup will be awarded. As you can see I have removed the actual countdown here, it was only meant to countdown to the day. Now that the day is dawning in Time Zones across the world people are trying to pinpoint when the results will be revealed.
THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT NO ONE KNOWS! Now normally Pottermore seems to operate between the hours of 9:00 am and 5:00 pm BST (British Standard Time). A fair amount of their bigger changes and announcements have happened at 11:00 am BST (6:00 am EST). Regardless we still have a few hours left!
They have not stopped any of the games yet on site, though many of us suspect they will have to at least an hour before awarding the cup.
LAST DAY UPDATE (7-4-2012 @ 12:14 pm EST): Hello! We are in the final day before the cup, and I can tell by the activity I am seeing on site that the students of Pottermore have been out in force today trying to get every last point they can. Still no word on when to expect the games to be shut down and the cup awarded.
Have a twitter? Who do you think will win?
The #PottermoreHouseCup is so close! Who do you want fo win? RT for Slytherin. Fave for Gryffindor.

BACK TO BLIND UPDATE (7-3-2012 @ 7:12 am EST): Pottermore has closed down the glitch we were using to collect point data from Pottermore. Meaning now we are TRULY flying blind. It worries me only slightly, part of the reason I know a lot of us were tracking points is due to a slight fear that the cup is rigged and I think seeing the points made that fear a little less. But two days out they have shut the final door and we now no longer can see the house standings by any means. I want to thank each and every one of you who contributed points to the data sheets. You guys rock!
At last count Slytherin had a pretty decent lead over Gryffindor. The largest lead we’ve seen since the site opened to the public. All we can do now is see what happens in the darkness and hope the conspiracy theories are just that, conspiracy theories.
Less than 48 hours here until July 5th. Many of us are still wondering at what point the site will pull the plug on dueling and potions to stop point accrual in order to do the final tabulations. It will probably be either late on the 4th or very early on the 5th so be prepared for it!
As soon as I see or hear anything new I shall be reporting it here straight away.
If you are on twitter (follow @ElmBlade43) tweet with the hash tag #PottermoreHouseCup to find others tweeting about the cup race.
Now what are you waiting for? Go brew and duel your house needs points I’m sure!!
LESS THAN THREE DAYS UPDATE (7-2-2012 @ 12:51 pm EST): At the moment we are showing quite a lead in Slytherin’s favor. We have parnered with HouseCup.info in helping them track the points using the item collection glitch. If you would like to help by contributing your houses score see the link below to input your houses score.
NOT SO BLIND NOW UPDATE (6-30-2012 @ 7:32 pm EST): Now as we reported yesterday, the points in the Great Hal have been obscured so that we can not see who is in the lead. But as with many things, there is of course a work around we have found to see the point total for your own house. When you collect any item in any moment, the total score for your house will become temporarily unblocked (the one to the right of your house crest). This only tells you your own houses score, but put together with others can give us a good idea of where the points are lying.
So we have began collecting data from users to attempt to track the points. Here are the necessary links if you would like to participate or just see the standings:
Form To Input Your Houses Total ScoreHouse StandingsAll Input From Form
Now for those of you who are sitting there thinking “But ELM I collected every object AGES ago” I want to remind you that items regenerate when you give them away. So pick an item, gift it so you don’t have it anymore, and then go recollect it. (I am glad to take Slytherin chocolate frog cards, I’m starting a collection.) If you have any questions about how this works let me know.
FLYING BLIND NOW UPDATE (6-29-2012 @ 7:18 am EST): This morning I woke up to find a comment waiting for me from HawthornQuest16394 telling me to check the site. You know INSTANTLY the moment you hit the Gateway that something special was going on when you see this message:

Upon arriving in the Great Hall you will see that all of the hour glasses have been hidden by curtains:

So we will literally be flying blind from here on out! I actually knew they would do this eventually because I had seen the graphic for the hour glasses covered in curtains when looking in the site’s source code earlier in the week. I had THOUGHT they would wait longer to cover them, but I guess this is more fun!
Finally, a cryptic message in notifications to complete the mystery:

Secret bonus? What could it be? Rumor mills are working in overtime as many people had thought for a long time that whoever wins the house cup would get the second book first. We will have to wait to see if this is true.

This graph shows the LAST READABLE SCORE from the Great Hall. Slytherin was in the lead by 16,000 points. We will have to find out much later if they managed to keep that up.
ONE WEEK LEFT UPDATE (6-27-2012 @ 6:40pm EST): After a day of up and down changes in lead, Slytherin has managed to scrape back into the lead. But it’s getting more and more difficult each time to take the lead back. We are seeing a LOT of new users on Pottermore, as well as returning users, all picking sides and rapidly struggling to try to secure their house enough points to win the house cup. The Common Rooms are being flooded with information, some is accurate some is not so much. If you are looking for point earning help, check out “Pottermore Help” in the top menu of this blog. There you will find Dueling and Potions 101 and complete item location lists. Remember that each item bags you a point, at least the first time, so it’s worth getting them all as a new users. Also, feel free to leave a comment here asking whatever you like and I will be glad to answer it.

EVENING UPDATE (6-25-2012 @ 10:19pm EST): Slytherin in the lead with about 7000 points at the close of the day. Well, my day at least. It’s time for me to take the last potion off of the fire and hit the dormitories. *nox*
LEAD CHANGE UPDATE (6-25-2012 @ 12:12pm EST): Gryffindor has taken the lead from Slytherin by aproximately 3000 points. Lets see if they extend it or if us Slytherins steal it back.
MONDAY MORNING UPDATE (6-25-2012 @ 9:58am EST): The Slytherin lead has dwindled from 20,000 to a little over 5,000. Lets see if Slytherin can hold it down or if we will see Gryffindor take the lead from us today.

Graph courtesy of HouseCup.Info.
(This was getting long, so more updates are below the cut)
UPDATE (6-24-2012 @ 3:30pm EST): Slytherin has maintained the lead for nearly 24 hours. It’s now at 20,000 points. KEEP IT UP SNAKES!

Graph courtesy of HouseCup.Info.
AFTERNOON UPDATE (6-23-2012 @ 5:50pm EST: Slytherin has taken the lead and increased it to 12000 points! Let’s see of this keeps up. Click here to view a graph of their lead increase over the past couple of hours!
ITS MORNING TO ME UPDATE (6-23-2012 @ 12:10 pm EST): Gryffindor has kept their lead through the night. Increasing it to 6000 points. Ravenclaw has slowed their ascent, and though they are still keeping a steady gap they aren’t closing it at the moment. Come on Claws, don’t lose hope just yet! Below is a graph of activity over the last 24 hours from the good folks over at HouseCup.Info.

Courtesy of HouseCup.info
According to them the occasional waves up and down happen at high server times. When Pottermore gets bogged down it starts to regurgitate old cached point totals. That’s what creates the up and down illusion.
UPDATE (6-23-2012 @ 4:37 am EST): Gryffindor has the lead back by a thousand points. It’s going to be a close race folks! This dueler has to head to bed now though. Keep calm and Potter on.
LATE NIGHT UPDATE (6-23-2012 @ 1:46 am EST): Slytherin has taken back the lead by just over 5000 points! Check out this graph showing the changeover in the lead. Points seem to be stabilizing a bit, with less jerks up and down that can’t be explained. I am logging on to brew and duel. (Click here to send me a dueling challenge!)
Stay tuned here for updates and keep earning those points!
FIRST UPDATE (9:00pm EST): Currently Gryffindor is in the lead by about 6,000 points. They spent a good portion of today fighting off the 17,000 points lead that Slytherin closed the night with last night. But with twelve days to go I expect to see the two lead houses go back and forth quite a few times before it’s through.

Graph from HouseCup.info.
I suspect that the up and down we see on this graph is from calculation overload on Pottermore’s behalf but it is leveling out.
There is LOTS of activity coming out of Ravenclaw. They have slightly narrowed the gap between them and the leaders. It was at around a million points when the cup was announced, but they have gained about 120,000 on that today. Lets see if they can unify and maybe pull off an upswing to bring them into play with Gryffindor and Slytherin.
Hufflepuff unfortunately is too far behind to catch up. If you are a Hufflepuff and you are still dueling and earning points I COMMEND YOU! If I were you I would pick the house you want to win and throw your weight behind them. Give encouragement. Give potion ingredients. But above all else, KEEP DUELING. I love you Hufflepuff, here’s hoping next year’s cup you are in the top two houses.
Right now we don’t know what time of day to expect the grand events to start on July 5th. I think bearing in mind that the community on Pottermore is international, that no matter when they award the cup everyone will be able to see what they have in store for it. Should they give us a specific time I will adjust the countdown accordingly.
Check back here for updates on cup standing and information. I will probably update multiple times a day. If you are on twitter follow @ElmBlade43 for updates and send out tweets with #PottermoreHouseCup at the end to find others tweeting about the cup as well.
Regardless of who wins, this is bound to be a fun Pottermore experience!

IT HAS BEEN AWARDED! Congratulations Slytherin!
I like the way they keep us in suspense
Final day of the year… I’ll do my best!
Good luck!
I made 5 Sleeping Draughts today. I messed up 6 times (I think).
I still have time to make 2 or 3 more before I go to bed. Making a potion for 53 min and earning 11 points makes me feal acomplished. While it is possible to earn 14 pph (points per hour) with Antidote to Common Poisons, I dont feal like doing that, it’s not worth it
The glitch has been fixed!
I’m actualy happy about this. It ruined the magic
It’s more fun this way, I suppose, but unfortunately I’m one of those people who is paranoid that this thing is rigged for Gryffindor. I know it’s very unlikely, but seven books’ worth of Slytherin failure does make one leery…
On the bright side (if you’re a snake), Slytherin surged ahead right around the time the points were first blocked, so maybe we do best when we’re uncertain.
I agree with the fact that Slytherin soars in the dark. We have managed to create the largest lead since opening during the time the points have been covered.
And if after that Gryffindor wins I suspect you will see a great deal of Slytherin players who believe it was rigged.
However in recent dives into the source of Pottermore I did find what appeared to be winner banners for every house. So let’s hope it’s not rigged at all.
I’m a Gryffindor. but I do have a Slytherin account, so if they win, I can still see the “secret bonus”
I disagree with this practice. That really ruins the magic.
I will not let PM keep secrets from me. Just because I’m a Gryffindor doesn’t mean I’m not gonna cheat
You don’t consider having an account just to see the prize as cheating? And they can cover the points because that secret is magical but if you don’t win and get the bonus you won’t allow that secret kept from you?
Well. I doubt it’s going to be anything so fancy as you will be missing something “secret” and I’m sure it will be all over the web the moment it happens as to what the “bonus” is.
Regardless you will never convince me it’s ethical to have an account just to be in the winning house. Sorry.
Aren’t we only supposed to have ONE account, and if we have more we are breaking Pottermore’s rules and terms of use? The whole point of having a house cup is competition, and getting a reward for one’s hardwork is a good incentive, though of course everyone would love to get a secret, but we will all find out about it eventually. Hey I’m a Hufflepuff, and we are way behind, and unless for some odd reason all the other three houses had their points reset to 0, we won’t be in with a chance. But that doesn’t stop us enjoying it, and still trying to earn as many points as we can!
It was against the rules during the Beta. But now, it’s legal. You can even have multiple accounts on the same email
Being able to put multiple accounts on the same email was so that children could use their parents’ email addresses when they sign up. This is what the CURRENT Terms & Conditions say about having multiple accounts:
“3.11 Although you are permitted to have both a Pottermore Account and a Pottermore Shop Account, you are not permitted to hold more than one Pottermore Account. If we suspect that you are in breach of this provision, we reserve the right to suspend your Pottermore Account temporarily or to terminate it permanently. ”
The rule never went away, it just got ammended so that people understood they could have one account for Pottermore and then a shop account. You are still not supposed to have multiple accounts and I have known people to be banned for having them. Not sure how they found out they had them, but there you go.
That’s the spirit Daniel! Just earn points and have fun!
I finally convinced my nephew to stop sending me piles of ingredients, etc. from his Hufflepuff account. He was trying to thank me for giving him his new computer but I told him it just doesn’t look right. He still duels me about 30 times a day, but the gifting has slowed to a trickle. We don’t need to give people an excuse to accuse Slytherin of cheating
I hope we have this thing nailed down with a wide enough gap that Gryffindors can’t start saying we got lucky with the time of day they cut off points or any such nonsense.
I’m sorry, that’s just not right! Having multiple accounts ruins the fun, and is probably responsible for the “reporting sprees” in the common rooms.
Man there was a lengthy period of time last night where you couldn’t post anything helpful in the Slytherin common room without it being reported. Was not fun.
The bug has been fixed: now you cannot see your House’s points after pickin up an object
Uh oh!
Update. The “PM House Cup” notification has misteriosly disapeared. Is PM getting ready to send us the next notification? Are they planning to do something new?
That’s what I thought!
Pingback: Welcome! « Blog of a Pottermore Beta
I dont understand why are we not allowed to use numbers in the comments of the “hidden house points form”. Unfortunatly, I didn’t notice this earlier today and entered my full PM name. I hope this doesn’t screw things up!
This is in case Pottermore sees the form so that they can not identify who is contributing to it. The numbers will probably be removed for you at some point.
Oh. I thought that it screws up google docs, so I entered the numbers using words in a new entry. Do you know who created this thing, so they can remove the numbers?
Already deleted from line 582, but not yet from line 586
Sometimes it takes a bit before they catch that it’s there.

Hey Elm!
So I’ve been following your blog for a while and its really awesome, and this is my favorite part so far! The statistics are awesome, and thanks for keeping track of the scores for us! (I hope Gryffindor wins
Also I’d like to say thanks for the Gryffindor card you sent me over Pottermore, I’m PatronusGold something or other.
So good luck, and may the best house win! (cough-cough-Gryffindor-cough)
You are very welcome for the Gryffindor card! We are working hard to keep the scoring up to date, especially now that HouseCup.info is relying on the information to keep tracking data. We are however running short on Gryffindor contributors to the points, so if you have not been contributing or you have time to contribute more it would be greatly appreciated.
I think that there is still time in this race that either house might win. Good luck!
I’m a Gryffindor. But I can’t update too ofthen
housecup.info is back on
HouseCup.info is using our data collected in the forms listed above to fuel it’s numbers.
All Input From Form – wrong link. It should lead here
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0ArEyaN2bNY8QdE1lQXJNaW52MTdVSkRNbFd4NEEwcmc#gid=0
But it leads to Hufflepuf
Now it leads to Slytherin. But it should lead to “Form Data”
Now it leads to best items
Hawthorn. I haven’t changed the link once. It just does that. Google docs is funny like that.
Does the Iink to the Form work? All the other links are there.
Link to form to input houses score works for me. It’s the second one that sometimes sends people to weird graphs
Using the glitch, Gryffindor has 70,870,289 points June 30, 13:47 EST (14:17 in my timezone)
I ment 14:47 in my timezone
We have grass roots point tracking happening here: http://t.co/lndLIsTw
Publish this update, please
At the moment we are unsure of the accuracy of the points so I’m not totally broadcasting it. Perhaps when there is more data.
I just HAVE to post this update here!
In the run-up to the award ceremony for the Pottermore House Cup, the Great Hall hour-glasses will be concealed for the next week. You’re in the final stretch now – good luck to all houses. Members of the winning house will receive a ‘secret’ bonus.
6/29/2012
Also, take a look at the Great Hall! It’s getting ready to show the winner!
Just saw this thanks to you. Working on update. Thank you!
Glad to help
And by the way, there is a glitch. You can see YOUR HOUSE’S TOTAL POINTS if you go to a moment and pick up and object
Oh really? No xxxxxs?
Housecup.info has a countdown, and it’s different from this countdown.
Your countdown: 12 days 6 hours 5 minites
Husecup.info countdown: 1 week 4 days 14 hours 14 minites
Theirs is not set to use the time and date on your computer. As mine says it is counting down to midnight July 5th in your time zone. Theirs seems to be affixed to their own timezone. Because in my time zone the two countdowns match exactly for me. (They must be EST) My count down automatically adjusts to your timezone. Unless the time an date on your computer is incorrect.
Actually theirs uses clock time too. And they match for most people. But for a few people the countdowns dont match. Sometimes its mine that’s wrong. Sometimes it is theirs. Just corresponded with them on it. We are blaming nargles.
