Greetings Pottermorians! Today Pottermore launched the middle section of Prisoner of Azkaban consisting of eight new chapters. Coming just shy of four months after the first section, this release leaves seven chapters of this book to be released at a later time.

For those of you joining me live, feel free to comment away. I will be responding to them as I go. If you see I’ve moved on and left something behind please let me know!

When we left Harry’s story, he had just gotten settled for his third year at Hogwarts! He had just attended his first lessons of the year, including new subjects and new teachers. Lets see where these new chapters will take us…

{This blog is currently LIVE meaning information is constantly being added as I work my way through the chapters. To see this new information as I post it you will have to refresh the page.}

Chapter 8: Flight of the Fat Lady

Moment 1: The Hallowe’en Feast

I can tell just by the little square on the chapter page that I’m going to love this moment. Jack-o-lanterns!

Oooh, starting with a view of the ceiling of the Great Hall complete with orange streamers and flying bats.

Wait, they follow the mouse! That’s awesome. You can hear them over the hustle and bustle of the students below.

Okay I’ll stop playing with the bats now and zoom in.

So many carved and glowing pumpkins! Some you only get to see as the screen pans down from the bats.

Watching the reenactment of Nearly Headed Nick’s death and ghosts keep popping up between the tables!

The animation to it is nice.

Collected a pumpkin (object) from in front of the chopping block. He’s got a mischievous face carved in him. I like that.

This is an AMAZING Halloween scene. Even though it’s April I’m feeling the spirit.

Just nabbed 5 galleons from the floor amidst the pumpkins on the right side of the main isle.

This is what you get when you leave your gold laying around!

I’m sure there is something else here. I keep getting distracted looking at the tables. There’s a cake I wouldn’t mind having a piece of right now.

There is something else! Found some bat wings (ingredient) on the bench to the left of the main isle.

Looks almost like a girl was sitting on them. As much as I don’t want to leave Halloween Hall let’s roll on!

Moment 2: The Slashed Painting

Oh no! Where’s the Fat Lady?

PEEVES! He looks awesome in a little jester outfit. And he makes noise when you roll over him.

Don’t mind me, just sitting her making Peeves fart. I can’t stop giggling.

I’m pretty sure I’m going to pick some people’s pockets in a second, but first I think I’ll zoom in and get a look at this painting.

Unlock new info from J.K. Rowling Hogwarts Portraits by clicking on the slacked painting.

Reading it and it’s excellent! “the degree to which they can interact with the people looking at them depends not on the skill of the painter, but on the power of the witch or wizard painted.”

This, actually, explains a lot.

Zooming back out. Everyone in the crowd is murmuring and staring transfixed at the painting.

McGonagall is wearing an awesome hat.

If it were green I would want it really badly.

Everyone is distracted and I’m stealing their stuff. Just nicked a pepper imp (object) from a boys back pocket.

In fact I think it was Percy.

Floating my mouse around about waist height of the crowd and found a galleon just below someone’s hand.

Would like to take a moment now to point out that I like Snape’s formidable outline in this scene.

But… um… does he have his hand on a student’s shoulder?

It’s a girl, she has braids! WHO IS SHE, SEVERUS?

*cough* Excuse me got carried away.

Scored another galleon. This one was tricky to find, but if you run your mouse down from below Peeve’s feet (in his resting position) you should find it.

Have I pilfered everything from these poor shell shocked students?

Dumbledore looks like Cousin It from this angle.

Pretty sure that’s it here, leaving a comment at the end of the chapter and moving forward.

Chapter 9: Grim Defeat

Moment 1: Gryffindor Versus Hufflepuff

Anyone else feeling cold looking at this? Brrrr.

And the sound is almost terrifying. The rattling breath. They really captured the rattling breath of the Dementors.

Scarry scabby hand.

WOAH, the audiobook clip just startled me.

Zoom pans upward and plays a clip from the audiobook describing what’s happening in this scene.

It works nicely, watching the rain and the animated lightening while hearing the words.

The storm effects are beautifully done, in fact if it wasn’t for the Dementors breathing all over this moment it would be relaxing.

Right when you pan up, look in the right hand portion of the sky and you will see Cedric Diggory fly off to catch the snitch! (Thanks guys!)

I had to refresh the page because I missed it the first time. I was distracted by lightning.

I’m like a niffler, I like shiny things.

Despite being a niffler I’m not finding anything to collect in this moment.

Odd as it’s the only moment for this chapter.

Chapter 10: The Marauder’s Map

Moment 1: Dissendium

The one eyed witch and the castle is decked out for Christmas!

This moment is quiet compared to the others, but that makes sense. Harry is sneaking around right now.

Click on the map in Harry’s hands to unlock J.K. Rowling info “Marauder’s Map”!

Reading it.

Woah, what is a SPOILER WARNING?

Since when does Pottermore do spoiler alerts?

They’ve even blocked the sidebar with it. And it’s even a little clever, because it’s a picture of the dark mark.

Anyway, actually reading the INFO now. Sorry.

This is good stuff. Tugs at the heart strings a bit.

I have one nitpick, they end it sounding as if Harry lost it in Goblet of Fire when fake Moony confiscated it.

But we know that he still had the Map in the last book because he used to see Ginny once.

Anyway, I’m back to the Hallway. Sound of torches crackling. Squeak of the suit of armor as it turns it’s head when I roll over it.

Is that..

It is! Above Harry and the one eyed witch you can collect mistletoe berries (ingredient).

No more going to the Great Hall in the first book for me.

Went back and read J.K. Rowling’s full thoughts from the sidebar of the Marauder’s Map info and it actually explains how Harry got it back. Go figure. (Thank you!)

See this is why I do it this way, because I would miss everything if it wasn’t for you guys. LOL.

You can open and close the door to the left. After it’s open zoom in and you can pick up Jiggery Pokery and Hocus Pocus (book) through the crack of the door.

That seems to be all you can grab behind the door. Though even after picking up the book it looks like it’s still sitting there.

Zoomed back out and collected the Gunhilda of Gorsemor card!

The one eyed witch now has a name and turns out she cured Dragon pox!

Moving on, I’m gonna pretend I’m going through a stone tunnel and then…

Moment 2: Honeydukes

It’s so bright and boyant! The kids are giggling and I now want candy.

We’re stealing again… just stole a green acid pop (object) from the stand in front of the register.

First we sneak in through their basement and now we’re taking their candy. Good thing no one can see us I guess.

Zoomed out to see more of the shop. There’s a boy breathing fire, wonder what he ate.

Collected a chocoball (object) from the three tiered shelf on the table. It looks amazing. Where can I buy one of these in the real world?

In one moment they give you two great gifts! One for your enemies and one for your friends.

Snagged a peppermint toad from a green box on the wall. Also sounds good.

Zoomed back and you can click to read the notice about dementors patrolling the town.

Can you imagine living or working somewhere that after dark happiness sucking creatures patrolled? No thank you!

It’s obvious by the way the people here are giggling that they’re all hopped up on sugar.

Probably a good thing I can’t eat anything in here or I would be too.

Time to leave the shop I think.

I rang the bell on the door as I left.

Moment 3: The Three Broomsticks

Wow look at all that snow! It’s really coming down in Hogsmeade right now.

Ran my mouse over the roof of the building to the right and some snow fell off of it. Hope I didn’t bury anyone!

Plugged a sprig of holly from the front window.

This building IS the Three Broomsticks, and when the door opens you can hear the ruckus inside.

Zoom in. You can see McGonagall, Flitwick, Fudge (complete with bowler hat) and Hagrid fighting through the snow to this door.

Between their legs you will find the Glover Hipworth chocolate frog card in the snow.

To the left of the screen that student is still breathing fire when you run your mouse over him. Thanks to a comment I now remember it is pepper imps that cause that.

Behind him on the ground you can pick up a snowball.

I’m pretty sure that’s going to melt in my trunk.

Chapter 11: The Firebolt

Moment 1: The Firebolt Is Confiscated

But.. but… he JUST got it. It’s so sudden.

This is another moment with audiobook snippet playing.

My eyes automatically went to Hermione hiding behind her book.

By the way, if you want to change which audiobook you are hearing you can change your language. English-UK is Stephen Fry. English-US is Jim Dale.

Hermione even shifts nervously behind her book when you mouse over her, I love it!

Collected the Dunbar Oglethorpe card leaning on a stack of books in front of Hermione.

Zoomed in. Ran my mouth over the stones on the table and they started to move and spit. Clicked on the bag to unlock new info from J.K. Rowling about Gobstones.

Snape’s mum was a Gobstones geek. Gobstones is like the Magic the Gathering of the Wizarding world. That’s what I took from that.

On the other side of the table you can gobble up a homemade mince pie.

It’s weird we had Halloween and now Christmas during the span of these chapters. Odd to be thinking of those holidays in April.

Found a roll of spell-o-tape on top of a box in the chair. Looks like someone didn’t get around to their wrapping.

Scanned the tree and was also able to collect a red christmas bauble.

The tree has plenty I’m sure no one will miss it.

Chapter 12: The Patronus

Moment 1: Expecto Patronum

Don’t worry, I’m not expecting a Patronus quiz.

Looks like this is the end of Harry’s first anti-dementor lesson with Professor Lupin.

Lupin is backing the full moon Boggart back into the box and Harry is eating chocolate.

Click on the wrapper to unlock a very brief bit from J.K. Rowling called Dementors and Chocolate.

The title sounds like a strange title for a novel.

Moused over a desk in the front row and a drawer opened allowing me to collect the Andros the Invicible chocolate frog card.

The drawer was a little tricky at first I got it to open but when I tried to get the card it shut back before I could.

Zoomed in and Lupin actually gets the boggart in the box and closes the lid. Looked awesome and took me by surprise at first.

The cabinet to the left opens when you mouse over it, and on the bottom shelf is five galleons.

I feel like there is something else here. But I’m just not putting my mouse on it.

FOUND IT!

The middle desk drawer of the front row ALSO opens and inside is a Bertie Bott’s Pumpkin-Flavoured Bean. I want one!

It even looks rather like a pumpkin. This has been a pumkiny set of chapters.

Chapter 13: Gryffindor versus Ravenclaw

Moment 1: Ron Tries Out the Firebolt

I just would like to take pause right now and long for a Quidditch based game for Pottermore. Just one moment.

In the books Quidditch had the biggest impact on the House Cup.

We’re at the Quidditch Pitch, and Madam Hooch is asleep in the stands. She snores when you run your mouse over her.

You can collect a galleon from the row behind her.

People losing galleons everywhere.

Between the shadows of the two nearest goal posts, you can find and collect a Bertie Bott’s Grass-Flavoured Bean. It looks grassy as well.

They’ve rather changed the way they are doing the individual beans slightly.

I’ve actually had a grass flavored bean and it was rather convincing. Tasted just like when you fell face first into the grass as a child.

Down the first row past madam hooch a bit you will find the Cyprian Youdle chocolate frog card lying on the floor of the stands.

Finally ready to zoom.

This is a truly beautiful view of Ron riding a broom at sunset. It’s amazing and peaceful. I love it.

Click on the farthest goal post to unlock new info from J.K. Rowling called The Firebolt.

Rather think I should have clicked ON the broomstick for that but this was not a moving target.

I really like this moment. I could leave it on this sunset forever. I love the way the stars are just peeking out. Gorgeous.

Zooming back down to check for something that might be on the ground.

Found it! In the grass back near the door where the players come out onto the pitch you can pick up some dried nettles.

Moment 2: A Rude Awakening

We’re in the boys dormitory. And people are going down the circular stars to the common room below.

Collected the Alberic Grunnion chocolate frog card from on top of a pile of what I THINK might be dungbombs at the foot of one of the beds.

From the top of the trunk you can also grab a pack of toothflossing stringmints. I like the sound they make when you collect them.

Um… can anyone identify the round lime green disk in the middle of the floor that makes noise and appears to be munching on something?

With an assist from twitter, it’s a fanged frisbee. Wish I could collect it now.

Especially since fanged frisbees are technically banned.

You can pan back and forth across the dorm room. There are lots of things that look like you could pick them up, but you can’t.

The final zoom tightens in on what must be Ron’s bed. Because if you so much as touch the hangings they fall down

You can grab a dung bomb from the dresser to the right of this bed. Right at the base of the pitcher.

Watch out, we can gift dung bombs now!

Now I’ve stolen a galleon from on top of a trunk at the foot of the bed to the left.

Think I’ve nicked enough stuff from their dorm room?

Chapter 14: Snape’s Grudge

Moment 1: Buckbeak’s Appeal

Is that Buckbeak laying on Hagrid’s bed with a plate full of dead ferrets? I think it is!

There’s Hagrid’s suit too! Full of fun details to see in the hut.

Helped myself to a bath bun from the platter on the table.

Zoom in and you can read the letter from the ministry that is in Hagrid’s suit pocket.

Drawers to the right open when you roll over them.

The top drawer contains the Wilfred Elphick chocolate frog card.

The middle drawer contains a galleon.

Wow. If you mouse over Buckbeak he takes a very serious bite out of one of the ferrets.

There is a puddle of flobberworm mucus on the floor! Another fabulous potion ingredient find!

I want to snuggle with Fang right now. He looks super comfy by the fire side. Even if a little nervous about the giant beast on his master’s bed.

Moment 2: The Shrieking Shack

BUSTED! Harry’s head has been spotted.

This is yet another beautiful moment. Even the dilapidated shrieking shack doesn’t look so gloomy in this light. And the birds are chirping.

Definitely feels more in tuned to the season I’m in right now.

You can steal a bar of frogspawn soap from Ron’s pocket. A Zonko’s product.

Harry sort of becomes more visible when you run your mouse near him.

There is a leaping toadstool at the base of the tree.

You know we can collect these in a few moments now and yet they aren’t used in any of our potions.

Zoom in and you will see a dark spot midway up the mountain at the center of the frame. Click to collect lavendar.

At the red crest of a closer hill you can collect valerian sprigs.

This is another moment where I really enjoy the view. It’s breathtaking.

Moment 3: A Spare Bit of Parchment

We seem to visit Snape’s office a lot don’t we?

I’m not complaining of course, here he is summoning Lupin by flu. The effect is breathtaking and brigh.

Harry’s bag of Zonko’s goodies is spilled across the table. The nose biting teacup moves when you mouse over it.

Scanning the shelves to the left of the fire for loot. On the second shelf next to the books are some eels’ eyes.

Ew one of these jars made a slurching sound and moved around.

On a shelf just above the teacup I mentioned before you can collect pufferfish eyes. Another ingredient that doesn’t have to be purchased, anymore.

The bottom shelf was the real treasure trove though, side by side you can collect bat spleens and dragon liver.

Those poor bats and dragons!

This chapter was the wealthiest chapter for collecting. Lots of ingredients. And I have watched Snape throw the flu powder in like five times now.

Chapter 15: The Quidditch Final

Moment 1: Gryffindor Wins The Cup

They love ending on a one moment chapter.

This is quite a celebration. Streamers falling from the sky. Harry hoisting the cup up over his head. Very spirited.

Man, Gryffindors, just book mark this page and whenever you need a pick me up come by for a pick me up.

Stole some binoculars from around a girls neck on the right hand side of the screen.

Their just gonna keep chanting Gryffindor for an eternity aren’t they?

This moment is torture for a Slytherin, Hufflepuff, or Ravenclaw heavily invested in the current House Cup competition. LOL.

Zoom in and you can collect the very hard to spot Leopoldina Smethwyck. Look on the ground between a banner wavers hand and the silhouettes of people celebrating on the field.

Feel like there might be something else among all this partying Gryffindor style, but I’m not finding it.

In the right hand stands, just above the middle of three waving flags, you will find five galleons.

I think that’s all to collect.

They ended this on a really nice positive moment. I like that. I have to click off of it now though. GRYFFINDOR GRYFFINDOR.

Points earned this chapter: 2
Points earned overall: 37

Overall I’m pretty pleased with this section of chapters. They all had fun depth of sound and imagery. A couple were sparse item wise but I’ve come to expect that sometimes from Pottermore.

If their release pattern holds we should be seeing the end of Prisoner of Azkaban in the middle of the summer. July, maybe August. The cup would follow shortly thereafter.

I’m going to return and write a lengthy wrap up for this this entry a bit later and answer all comments. For now I must go and sleep for work. Thank you all who hung out with me through this, it was good fun as always.

Good evening! And welcome to my LIVE blog through of the first chapters of Prisoner of Azkaban on Pottermore. This is my favorite of the novels so I’m really looking forward to seeing it.

As I go through I will be tracking how many points earned in each chapter and cataloging what can be collected and unlocked. Collectibles will be in bold. Unlockable J.K. Rowling content will be italicized.

Chapter 1: Owl Post

Moment 1: Harry’s Birthday

There is only one moment in the first chapter. O.o

As soon as I click to explore the moment a purple banner appears telling me the first chapters of Prisoner of Azkaban are available. Um… duh?

Now I’ve found myself in Harry’s bedroom at Privet Drive and it’s every bit as sloppy as it should be.

There are two owls in Hedwig’s cage. For a second I was confused but the second owl must be Errol!

The Monster Book of Monsters has already been clamped down with a belt. But it’s trying awfully hard to get away.

Zoomed in once and clicked on the Hogwart’s letter in Harry’s hands to read it.

Also readable is the letter from Ron which is laying behind Harry on the bed.

Then slightly under the Monster Book is the article from the Daily Prophet about the Weasley’s winning the galleon draw.

Picture has been omitted though.

None of these things were actually collectible, I was only able to read them and then put them back.

Hermione’s letter can also be read, it’s lying closer to Harry’s pillow.

I collected the Edgar Stroulgar chocolate frog card from the floor near Harry’s foot.

Tried to collect the alarm clock but it just lit up and dinged at me.

OOoooh. The broomstick servicing kit from Hermione is laying open on the foot of the bed and from it I collected a tiny brass compass.

I shall never be lost again!

Yet another thing to read on Harry’s bedside table. The note about the sneakoscope. But it doesn’t seem to allow me to collect the sneakoscope.

But I want it!

You can also read Hagrid’s card from the same table.

That has to be all of it. We’ve read every piece of post.

High on a shelf to the left there is a galleon to collect. (Mine was slightly hidden behind the signs, thanks ScarletMoonstone.)

Points earned this chapter: 2

Chapter 2: Aunt Marge’s Big Mistake

Moment 1: Aunt Marge

Once again, there is only one moment for this chapter.

Wow we got right too it. Opens to see Uncle Vernon’s backside and Ripper the dog munching on his leg.

The Dursley’s decorating taste is TERRIBLE.

Ahahahaha. When I ran my mouse past the dog Vernon cried out, the dog growled as the leg attempted to kick him off.

Clicked on the tipped over glass on the floor to unlock Aunt Marge info from Rowling. Going to read it.

I KNEW IT! I had always assumed the bit about Colonel Fubster and turns out it was true.

Zoom this time moves the screen up to where marge floats.

What is with the ducks on the wall? I want to steal one and hang it in my dorm.

Marge is looking mighty lovely. Her clothing is ripping apart! Is that popping noise supposed to be her buttons bursting?

Oh she makes noise!

Wasn’t expecting it but when I ran my mouse over her she moaned and drifted a bit.

Now I can’t stop doing it. LOL. Look at her sausage fingers. Oh and the CHINS!!!

Okay, I’m done mocking Marge.

Gonna move forward because I know what chapter is coming and I’m a little excited.

Points earned this chapter: 0
Points earned overall: 2

Chapter 3: The Knight Bus

Moment 1: Magnolia Crescent

Finally a chapter with two moments.

Harry stands next to his open trunk in the darkness of Magnolia Crescent.

The trunk is probably open because he was looking for his invisibility cloak. He was considering flying to Ron’s house when the movement in the Alley caught his attention.

The monster book is still twitching.

Stole the Blenheim Stalk chocolate frog card from Harry’s trunk. This is what happens when you leave your trunk open Harry.

Zoomed in and clicked on Harry’s wand light it.

In the alley way is a black dog.

PADFOOT.

He looks sort of scary right now but I KNOW it is Padfoot. So therefore I want to snuggle him anyway.

Collected flower heads (ingredient) from the hanging plant to the left of the alley entrance.

We now have two sources of flower heads and no potions to use the flower heads in.

Pretty sure that’s everything in this moment and I really want to get on the bus now so…

Moment 2: Inside the Knight Bus

Finally. My first ride on the Knight Bus!

It’s cluttered. Bed’s taking up much of the room but other random objects all over. Is that an umbrella stand?

And I’ve knocked it over. And a suitcase too. I’m just casually knocking things over.

Except for the cup. Which just sort of wiggles and doesn’t fall over.

There’s a person asleep and snoring in one of the beds. Good thing they aren’t a light sleeper since I’m just casually knocking things over.

I collected a walking stick (object) from the umbrella stand I knocked over.

I double clicked and the bus is off! I missed the first galleon though. It comes straight down the middle of the screen and them falls off to the right. Refreshing and trying again.

Crap missed it again. And missed one rolling across the floor under the beds.

This is hard! I haven’t caught one yet.

Ern is driving like a mad man and I’m trying to collect coins as they roll by. There are three galleons to catch.

Finally caught the one bouncing down the stairs. Had to click a bunch in it’s path until it ran into my mouse. Hehehe.

Grabbed the one that rolls from right to left when it bounced over the stuff I knocked on the floor.

It’s a big loop. The one that goes from left to right happens less often I’m waiting for it to come around with my mouse in it’s path to catch it.

FINALLY. Caught the little bugger. This was rather fun. There’s a couple things to read now I think.

You can pick up and read the Daily Prophet article about notorious murderer Sirius Black from back right bedframe.

I unlocked The Knight Bus content from J.K. Rowling by clicking on the hot water bottle on the bed to the right!

There is such a thing as being Floo Sick??? Fascinating!

This was a fun moment guys. Hunting the galleons was certainly an adventure!

Points earned this chapter: 3
Points earned overall: 5

Chapter 4: The Leaky Cauldron

Moment 1: Monster Book of Monsters

As soon as I enter the moment I am alerted that my third-year shopping list is now available in Diagon Alley. I’m awarded a point for this at the same time.

There is a go shopping list right on this alert. They did not give an allowance of galleons. Perhaps because a week ago they gave everyone a hundred? Not sure.

Apparently we have to buy our own Monster Book of Monsters because we aren’t actually Harry Potter. In Diagon Alley you will have to buy:

Monster Book of Monsters

Unfogging the Future

Intermediate Transfiguration

Standard Book of Spells, Grade 3

I think it’s the cheapest we’ve gotten out of Diagon Alley ever! But back to the moment!

We are in Flourish and Blotts looking at a cage full of Monster books.

When I run my mouse over the cage the books all start to rustle about in the cage.

Not sure there is anything to collect here. I’m scanning shelves and not finding anything. Can’t take the gloves even though they are just lying there waiting to be nicked.

AHAHAHA. Just collected the Invisible Book of Invisibility (book) from the back shelf.

You can see a gap in a stack of books and that’s where it is.

And when I collected it the books that were stacked on top of it fell down in it’s place. NICE TOUCH.

Alright I’m gonna stop enticing the books to rattle around and move on to…

Returned to collect The Philosophy of the Mundane: Why Muggles Prefer Not to Know (book). It is red and just above the stack of books closest to the cage.

Moment 2: The Magical Menagerie

CROOKSHANKS IS ON RON’S HEAD! But I have to dash back for a book I left behind.

Back now. Still chuckling at the cat on Ron’s head. Hehehe.

This room is a flurry of activity. Animals moving around everywhere and if you run your mouse over them they do things. Look, there’s the rabbit that turns into a top hat and then back again!

Collected a tub of dead bowflies (ingredient) from on top of a frog tank near the jewel encrusted turtle.

That was an odd sentence wasn’t it. Never thought I’d use a jewel encrusted turtle as a directional landmark.

Zoomed in and when I touched Crookshanks he hissed and Scabbers ran right off the counter and out of sight.

Zoomed in again and I can see the rats playing skipping games with their tails.

Collected rat tonic (object) from the counter.

Lots of stuff to mouse over and watch move. I want to buy more pets!

There is a box on the floor to the right of the counter and just under Harry’s elbow. On top of it is the Gulliver Pokeby chocolate frog card.

I think that’s everything here.

Points collected this chapter: 6Points collected overall: 11

Chapter 5: The Dementor

Moment 1: Professor R. J. Lupin

What, another chapter with only one moment? Bugger.

But I am excited about Lupin.

It’s raining. It’s pouring. Lupin is snoring.

Zooming in and we are in the compartment on the train. Even the cat looks like he would like to get away from the Dementor in the doorway.

The hand is uber creepy.

Running my mouse over Lupin he conjures a spell and the Dementor withdraws it’s icky scabby hand.

There is a Bertie Bott’s Sausage-Flavoured Bean to collect from the table in the foreground. Sausage? No thanks.

You can make Crookshanks hiss again.

And the whole time the Dementor’s breath is the only sound in the compartment and it is immensely creepy.

Brrrrr.

Points earned this chapter: 1
Points earned overall: 12

Chapter 6 : Talon’s and Tea Leaves

Moment 1: Sir Cadogan

Yay, I love Sir Cadogan!

And finally a chapter with three moments. Unbalanced a bit isn’t it?

That certainly is a rather stout pony.

I clicked on the frame of the painting to unlock Sir Cadogan exclusive content from J.K. Rowling.

This was a good one! “I’ll take Cadogan’s pony!”

My favorite reading so far this book.

Back to the moment. Tried to zoom but instead I think we are following Sir Cadogan to the next painting.

WE ARE! This is adorable.

Before you leave the first painting you should pet the pony. Because its fun.

Everyone in the second painting seems shocked by Sir Cadogan.

In the third painting he pops his head in and waves. Awesome. Made me laugh.

And then it loops back to the beginning. Can’t collect from paintings apparently.

Moment 2: Divination

Ooh, Trelawney’s classroom is awesome!

It’s very hazy in here. All the students are attempting to read the mush in the bottom of their teacups.

Zoomed in and collected an exploding snap pack (object). I want to play exploding snap! It’s near Trelawney right next to a teakettle to the left. of the fireplace.

Collected the Cassandra Vablatsky chocolate frog card from under a girls elbow at the table to the right of Harry and Ron’s table.

Collected a teacup (object) from a shelf to the left of the fire place. A blue pattern one.

Trelawney is really attached to the pink pattern ones.

Half way down the same shelf I found Xylomancy (book). It was tricky to find for a second.

The fumes in here are making me sleepy. Now I know how Harry feels.

Think I’ve gotten everything in here.

Moment 3: Hagrid’s First Lesson

HIPPOGRIFFS!

They move and paw the ground and rustle their wings and I want one.

Zoomed in and clicked on the Hippogriff to the right and unlocked Professor Kettleburn exclusive content from J.K. Rowling. A little surprised…

Wow. Maybe Hagrid was actually a good Care of Magical Creatures teacher compared to this gentleman.

If only we could watch Buckbeak slash at Malfoy. That would be fun.

I am not finding anything to collect but am enjoying making the back most Hippogriff spread his wings.

Zoomed back out and finally found some knotgrass (ingredient) near Ron’s foot. Thank you everyone in the comments for helping me find it.

Then zoomed back in and picked up the Norvel Twonk chocolate frog card in the grass near the bags. Had to run my mouse around a bit to get it.

Points earned this chapter: 6
Points earned overall: 18

Chapter 7: The Boggart in the Wardrobe

Moment 1: Riddikulus

We seem to be looking at the wardrobe trembling because it contains a boggart!

Oh look, we have to actually cast Riddikulus! I double clicked expecting to zoom.

And I failed it the first time.

GOT IT!

Is that… it is! It’s Professor Snape in Neville’s Gran’s clothing. Nice dress Professor!

Refreshing the page to get a different Boggart. This time it’s Ron’s GIANT SPIDER. And it’s chomping it’s little pinchers at me.

Cast Riddikulus again and took the spider’s legs. Book accurate! Not movie accurate. (Stupid roller skates)

Refreshed again and got a bloody mummy!

After defeating the mummy I am able to unlock the Boggarts exclusive content from J.K. Rowling

This is good stuff! Fascinating.

There are FIVE boggarts I think: Mummy, Spider, Snape, Banshee, and Crawling Hand. Each is fun. You can refresh as much as you want but have to cast riddikulus each time to see both effects for that banshee.

I’m gonna take a quick break and then type up my wrap up.

Points earned this chapter: 0
TOTAL POINTS EARNED: 18

Elm’s Wrap Up

I really enjoyed the moments contained in these first chapters of Prisoner of Azkaban. I do feel a couple of the chapters were a little sparse having only one moment. But the elaborate moments made up for it. I enjoyed hunting galleons on the bus, and following Sir Cadogan through the paintings.

I am a little unsure why stores in Diagon Alley did not open up. At the very least I feel like Fortesque’s ice cream parlor should have opened as Harry actually spends time there in the books! Perhaps they have a plan to come to fruition later this book. We still have 15 chapters left!

Thank you all who hung out in the comments while I blogged through. I still have many comments to read and answer. You guys are awesome!

The comment section is an excellent place if you have any question about these chapters. If I don’t answer someone else surely will! Next week I’m on vacation so look for lots of updates to the blog in the coming days.

Hey guys! As many of you have seen I have been returned my confiscated points. I can not thank you all enough for your love and support on this matter. I would give each and every one of you hugs if I could.

I am writing today to ask you all to continue sending emails to Pottermore on behalf of the many users who are still waiting for the return of their confiscated points. Many have not heard anything and most who have heard received no definitive answer as to whether they would see their points again. This can not continue!

Write to Pottermore! Tell them that it is INNOCENT until proven guilty and not the other way around. Tell them that if they don’t intend to return the points they need to inform each user of this. It is unfair to leave so many people in limbo wondering if they will see their points again. And the people have a right to know why their points are not being returned.

I have realized that together we can make them listen. Please don’t go silent. I need you. My fellow players who’s points were also taken need you.

Pottermore: RETURN THOSE POINTS!!!

UPDATE: As of this afternoon I have entered into correspondence with a member of the Pottermore team in regards to this situation. I have been assured that staff are going “to review every response from user accounts that had house points deducted, and where there are mitigating circumstances that is supported by the usage information we have captured we will re-instate house points.” If you have had your points deducted it is very important that you send a message to Pottermore stating your case. Visit the Help page on Pottermore and follow the headings OTHER -> WHAT’S NEXT? -> NEED MORE HELP? to reach the email form.

Hello loyal readers. I am going to try to keep my temper as I write this but rest assured if I lose it it is not at you, but at POTTERMORE and its injustices. What you see above is a screen shot of the Great Hall shortly before Pottermore deducted the points from anyone who had more than a certain number of points earned in a day. As you can see, I am up there. Right in the number one spot for Slytherin. You will also notice here that Ravenclaw is in first.

Some time this morning, Pottermore deducted all of my points. I received no advanced warning. Nor did any of the other 60 or so leader board members who lost all of their points. Many of whom are good friends of mine.

Their reasoning? We earned an “unusual” number of points. Some received e-mails saying so. I did not. I DID NOT EVEN GET AN E-MAIL. I have not received a response to any of my inquiries on the subject. In fact I’m starting to think that Pottermore is giving me the silent treatment.

Finally about an hour ago they posted on the Pottermore Insider about this.

Among this was:

“We have invited anyone who has had house points deducted, but can show that the points were actually earned fairly, to contact the Pottermore team and their points may be re-instated.”

HOW??? How do I prove my points were earned fairly? I didn’t have to forethought to install a Duel Cam to record me dueling. Would you like a testimonial letter from my very patient albeit frustrated boyfriend?

The injustice of this has shaken me. This might be the final straw for me. I might be leaving Pottermore forever.

NOWHERE did they state how many points was too many points. NOWHERE have they told us how they decided what that value was.

I was one of the ones screaming for your fair play, Pottermore. I WAS ONE OF THE ONES BEGGING YOU TO START PROSECUTING CHEATERS.

I guess I was stabbed with my own sword as it were.

Want to know how I earned all those points? All 7,924 points were earned by dueling constantly for two days straight. I knew when the points would reset. I rested up, I got prepared, I cleared my schedule. I EVEN TOOK THE DAY OFF OF WORK. The moment the points cleared after the cup was awarded I was online and dueling. I slept maybe four hours between Wednesday and Thursday. I’m not saying that is healthy or normal, but it isn’t cheating.

I was so excited to see myself atop the leader board. I was tired and elated when I went to bed last night. I expected to take a break today and maybe get on and duel again tonight. Instead I found myself with zero points and without the tiniest urge to earn points.

What would the point be? Who’s to say what Pottermore’s magic number is that is too many points? Right now I can earn in a day what the top of the leaderboard has. How do I know? I DID IT WEDNESDAY. But why should I? If I do so who’s to say that tomorrow or the next day they won’t take it all away again with absolutely no reasoning other than I earned more than they thought was normal?

I don’t know if I will ever get my points back. I doubt it as I can’t prove anything. But I can say one thing for sure, there is NO WAY I am EVER going to believe they “thoroughly investigated” before doing this. I am NEVER going to believe that all of those people, many of whom I know and talk to, deserved to have their points completely deducted.

SNITCHSPIRIT ADMITTED TO CHEATING AND ONLY HAD HALF OF HIS POINTS DEDUCTED!!!

As of right now I am on strike. Those item lists that need updating? Not happening. The 100 or so friend requests? Not getting accepted. New Potions tutorial? Never getting written. Until I get my points returned or at least a reasonable explanation as to what I did that was considered cheating (other than dueling more than the others) I have no intention of playing on Pottermore.

My love for the site is dead. Maybe it will come back. But right now I’m over it.

I’m tired of Pottermore staff treating us as if we are faceless users. I’m tired of fighting for fairness only to be unfairly punished just for being a good dueler. I have put a lot of my own personal time into Pottermore. And now I’m starting to feel like it was all a waste.

Thanks for nothing, Pottermore.

Update: If you are a Slytherin you will not need Polyjuice potion to get into the Slytherin common room in the story. All other houses see A Tale of Two Potions for help brewing Polyjuice.

Are you guys ready? I’m getting set up at this end right now! First a couple things all collectible items will be in bold. This includes Objects, Chocolate Frog Cards, Books, Galleons and Potion Ingredients. All unlockable J.K. Rowling info will be listed in itallics. This is to help you find them in this entry if you are just looking for item locations. All item location lists here on the blog will be updated after the fact, currently they only go through chapter 11 of Chamber of Secrets.

Please feel free to leave comments as I go along. If I have missed something and moved on please feel free to tell me.

Where we left off: Harry had attended the Dueling Club where he accidentally revealed to the entire school that he could speak to snakes. The dragon dung is about to hit the proverbial fan. Hope you guys are ready, I know I am!

From here on out, consider most everything to be a spoiler!

Starting Points: 27,337

Chapter 12: The Polyjuice Potion

Moment 1: Dumbledore’s Office

Oooh, Dumbledore’s Office! Can I steal stuff?

The fire is roaring in the fireplace. In the foreground you can see the Sorting Hat and Harry’s hand coming up as he reaches to remove it from it’s shelf to put it on.

The table of gadgets is there! One is smoking a bit…

Zoomed in once and collected the potion ingredient dragon’s blood from Dumbledore’s desk.

Makes sense as Dumbledore came up with the 12 uses of Dragon’s Blood.

There’s Fawkes on his perch by the door!

If you run across him with your mouse he moves and makes a noise that I would not have envisioned him making…

I just stole a sherbert lemon (object) from a dish on Dumbledore’s desk!!!

Hope he doesn’t get mad, I know they are his favorites.

I keep clicking Fawkes expecting him to burst into flames or something.

A cabinet to the right of him opens slightly and a blue glow comes from within. Could this be the pensieve appearing a couple books early?

Siriusly shouldn’t Fawkes catch fire?

I just realized that the ticking clock I’m hearing is on in Dumbledore’s office and not in my parents house. LOL!

I am not finding anything else I’m about to move forward.

A lot of the gadgets around the office move when you run your mouse over them. Cute but not collectible.

Moving on!

Moment 2: The Potion Is Ready

Ugh, Polyjuice even sounds gross. And here we have a close up view of it brewing atop a toilet full of Hermione’s waterproof fire.

If you click on each of the glasses around the rim they bubble and fizz as if you have just added the hair.

They are all different colors too!

There is A Bertie Bott’s Overcooked Cabbage-Flavoured Bean (object) on the floor. Blech, more beans in the bathroom? REALLY??

The gurgling in this moment is really making me lose my apetite.

There is a jug along the bottom of the screen and it turns out its the potion ingredient lacewing flies!

Guess you don’t have to buy those anymore!

Clicking on the bubbling potion within the cauldron unlocks Polyjuice Potion, new exclusive content from J.K. Rowling. I’m going to read it.

Well, new is a relative term. I knew pretty much all of that before I read it.

And I’m pretty sure that is it for this moment.

*clicks aimlessly*

Moment 3: The Slytherin Common Room

And I’m looking at a wall.

Now, I am a Slytherin so I didn’t NEED Polyjuice to get in, but all other houses will need BOTH PARTS of Polyjuice brewed in order to get past the wall.

I clicked in the middle and it slid away!

I want it to do this everytime I go into the common room.

What up, Slythering Common Room?

She says as if she’s never been there before.

CHRISTMAS TREE!

I forgot this happens on Christmas Day.

Below the chess board there is a drawer and inside I was able to collect the Montague Knightley chocolate frog card.

Hope someone wasn’t going to come back for it. I would hate to steal from my house mates.

Who am I kidding, that’s what they get for leaving things laying about.

On the table next to the Christmas tree you can pick up and read the article about Mr. Weasley being fined for the flying car.

Just collected the book Nature’s Nobility: A Wizarding Geneology from one of my favorite chairs near the fire.

Probably Goyle attempting to prove he isn’t a half-blood which I’m pretty sure he is.

He can’t be that dumb and be pureblood.

Then again, purebloods are sort of inbred…

Just collected five galleons from the mantle. Probably one of the richies left it laying about. *pockets it*

FINALLY got the Galleon Badge. I should have had it before this but it glitched.

As much as I want to just hang out in the common room I think it’s time to move on.

Even if the fire is pleasant, and the lights are all green (my favorite color).

But I’m pretty sure I got everything here, and if I don’t speed up I’ll be at this all night!

Points Earned This Chapter: 6

Chapter 13: The Very Secret Diary

Moment 1: Tom Riddle’s Diary

FINALLY, I have been ready for the diary!

First thing I grab is A Bertie Bott’s Soap-Flavoured Bean (object) from the floor.

I don’t know why they feel they need to put candy in the bathroom scenes. I mean seriously.

Speaking of bathroom scenes I can hear a faucet dripping.

Call a plumber.

Or a “pumbler” as Mr. Weasley would call it.

There is a slug crawling around, but I can’t collect it. Instead I just get to hear it as it slimes along.

Yeah, totally not hungry anymore.

Found Riddles Diary on the floor and its… blank of course.

Doesn’t look like I actually get to collect and keep it though, just pick it up and look at it. Bummer.

I just collected leaping toadstool (ingredient) that was growing under one of the sinks.

I really hope that the other bathrooms in the castle are less gross than this, because I don’t know if I can live like this for 7 years otherwise.

I hope I got everything, I can’t to hear Myrtle crying anymore.

MOVING ON.

Moment 2: Valentine’s Day

Merlin’s beard I forgot about Valentine’s Day!

I’m afraid.

I can see the gaudiness through the doors and I don’t want to go in.

Oh it is just as over the top as I always imagined!

Look at all those cupids. LOL. Some are flapping their wings!

Uh oh, there is actually a collectible Valentine’s Day Card (object) on the table to the right of the cupids all the way at the end.

I can see next valentine’s day on Pottermore in my head and it’s funny.

Collected five galleons from a bench to the left of the cupids.

There are a lot of objects to collect in this moment.

I’m going to try not to rant right now about how some moments have practically nothing and others have more than they should.

Wait did that could as a rant?

Whoops?

Collected A Bertie Bott’s Vomit-Flavoured Bean (object) from a bowl midway down the table to the left of the cupids.

Collected ANOTHER Valentine’s Day Card (object) from midway down the table to the right of the cupids. It is sort of standing up like a picture frame.

I’m about to go see how you can tell the difference between the two in your trunk.

They both have the same name, but different images and different slots in the object section of your trunk. WEIRD.

Hard to keep track of items when they name two different items the same name.

You know everyone in the great hall, without really having faces, still looks to be not thrilled with the decor.

Found A Bertie Bott’s Strawberry-Flavoured Bean (object) midway down the table to the right of the cupids on a plate.

Found yet another Valentine’s Day Card (object) sticking out of a boy’s pocket to the left of the cupids.

The more I have to type the word “cupids” the sillier I feel.

Zoomed all the way in and collected a bottle of rose oil (ingredient) from in front of Lockhart in his lurid pink robes.

I hope I have everything here now.

That was 7 collectibles in one moment. More than the entire first chapter.

Just realized one of the people at the head table has their head down and their face in their hands. All you can see is the top of their hat.

Moment 3: Into The Diary

I can almost imagine Ron telling me to put the diary down it’s just blank.

But as we all know it’s not blank.

Click on the 13th and it turns into a tiny black box and you zoom right through the diary just like Harry did.

And we find ourselves in a dark hallway. Harry is all the way to the left next to young Tom Riddle.

There isn’t anything to collect, but as Tathrin just pointed out in the comments, it makes sense you can’t collect things from the past.

I like the zoom noise as you go through the window in the book.

The memory is sufficiently creepy.

The box behind Hagrid is shaking because ARAGOG WANT’S OUT.

Oh man, Aragog. That scene’s coming up soon isn’t it?

Better move forward…

Points earned this chapter: 8

Points earned so far: 14

Chapter 14: Cornelius Fudge

Moment 1: Another Attack

Oh no, surely there hasn’t been ANOTHER attack!?!?!?

Man there are just petrified people all over this hospital wing now.

Zoomed in and ran my mouse across the screen shielding one of the beds. It folded back and I can just see Nearly Headless Nick floating behind it.

Clicked on Nick and unlocked Ghostsby J.K. Rowling. Reading it!

This reading was very interesting. I KNEW Muggles couldn’t properly see ghosts. FASCINATING.

After zooming in, I am able to open the cabinet door of the cabinet to the left of the entrance. Inside I collected a sweet looking bottle of Skele-gro (object) and some salamander blood (ingredient).

Almost missed it but there’s also a bezoar (ingredient) in the cabinet. Just like in the first book!

Time to move forward!

Returned to collect five galleons from a drawer to the right of Nick’s bed. It opens when you run your mouse over it. (THANKS GUYS!!)

Moment 2: Dumbledore is Suspended

Even just reading the title made me panic.

Hogwarts without Dumbledore? There will be an attack a week with him gone?

Hehehehehe.

And we are in Hagrid’s dark pumpkin patch. Is it me or are a lot of these moments very dark?

There’s another slug I can’t collect on one of the pumpkins crawling across.

Zooming out I find flesh-eating slug repellent on the window sill.

It isn’t working buddy, I saw at least two slugs!

Hang tight, I’m hopping a moment back becuase I missed some gold there.

Back on track. Seriously, Hagrid, slug repellent isn’t doing it’s job.

Urgh, I hovered over one of the slugs and it exploded. That is NOT what repellent is supposed to do.

Collected a bottle of dried billywig stings from the base of the fence below the window. Always count on Hagrid’s for some sort of potion ingredient.

Hmm, was that line about it possibly being used to make Fizzing Whizbees in the description before?

If you run your mouse over the window in the second zoom you can briefly see Harry and Ron.

At the farthest zoom out you can see Dumbledore, Mr. Malfoy, Fudge, and Hagrid leaving the hut.

Hanging from the eaves, just like in the first book, are some dried nettles (ingredient) that you can collect.

From on top of the barrel next to the front door I picked up some infusion of wormwood (ingredient).

Think I might have gotten everything…

Came back for a key on Hagrid’s floor. Now when you reach the third zoom out the door closes FAST but I just found that if you get your mouse right next to that exploding slug I mentioned earlier and zoom out twice you will find yourself primely placed to collect the key (object) before the door slams on you.

Also, I just saw a bat flying around.

Chapter 15: Aragog

Moment 1: Follow the Spiders

As Ron says, why couldn’t it be follow the butterflies?

MINI GAME ALERT! I have to find THREE spiders hiding in the vegetable patch during herbology.

Let’s see…

Oh you can collect stuff here too, I just picked shrivelfigs (ingredient) from the plant in front of Ron and Harry.

I like that all the plants in the greenhouse are moving about.

Alright, Spiders will have to wait, apparently there’s a key on the floor in Hagrid’s hut and I have to go get it.

And we are back on track again.

Was the spider just supposed to run away? LOL! I saw what appeared to be cabbage wiggling so I clicked on it and a spider scuttled out and off screen.

Collected the Beaumont Majoribanks chocolate frog card from under a plant in the row immediately to Harry’s right.

Clicked on another wiggling plant in the far row (Harry almost looks like he is pointing at it) and another spider scuttled out and off. Guess that’s what they are supposed to do.

Third spider is under a wiggling bag between the crowd of students nearer to the green house. As this one scurries away the screen pans to the left.

Here I found more spiders under things and collected five galleons from some tall grass.

Was I just chasing the spiders?

I dunno I expected something for finding them all. LOL. I’m spoiled I guess.

Moment 2: Rescued From the Forest

Another mini- game and the instructions are sort of alarming: “You’ll have to keep the spiders at bay. Click once on a spider to knock it back.”

I’m going to have to what now???

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

Some of them are huge. Oh no. CAR WHAT IS TAKING YOU THIS LONG?!?!?!

I swear there is an invisible spider because I didn’t see it until it was MURDERING RON AND HARRY.

FINALLY! The blare of a horn and the shining of headlights and I’m given the potion ingredient knotgrass for my trouble.

The trick I think is not waiting for the spiders to get to close, if you have the immediate vicinity clear go ahead and click the spiders that are farther away, they will back away also giving you more time to click the others.

There is also root of aconite (ingredient) to collect to the left of Aragog’s nest and porcupine quill (ingredient) to the right. You can collect these during the game, but you can also do it afterwards. I am glad to see a porcupine quill in the forest that I can actually pick up.

Chapter 16: The Chamber of Secrets

Moment 1: Hermione’s Clue

The beds in the hospital wing are really filling up now.

Collected a Herpo the Foul chocolate frog card from under Hermione’s pillow. Shouldn’t that be a Valentine from Lockhart or something?

You can click on the paper gripped in Hermione’s hand to read about the Basilisk. It even has Hermione’s clue about the pipes scrawled on it.

We are spending too much time in the Hospital Wing. How do I know? I automatically zoomed in and felt around the cabinet.

There I collected a bottle of castor oil (ingredient).

To the right the door opens when you run your mouse over it and on the floor is a bag containing five galleons.

They aren’t being shy about galleons this book, that’s for sure.

Don’t think there is anything else here for me, so I’m moving on…

Moment 2: The Entrance to the Chamber

And of course I’m looking at sinks in the bathroom.

THIS BATHROOM. Why hasn’t someone fixed that faucet yet? It’s still dripping.

Zoomed in and clicked on the left knob of the sink directly in front of me. The animation here is nice. The knob spins and the sink falls away to reveal the hole.

Is this it? I can’t go through the hole, it just sits there and drips disgustingly. Ew.

Moment 3: Two Entwined Serpents

It’s dark when I arrive, but as I move my mouse around Harry’s wand light gets brighter showing the door to the Chamber of Secrets.

They did a good job with the jewel bright eyes of the Snakes.

Nothing to do here but click and the doors open. No zooming after that, just creepy sounding music and a black expanse before Harry.

And me clicking for no reason on stuff I can’t really click on.

Not sure WHEN but in this chapter I seem to have unlocked Chamber of Secretsexclusive content by J.K. Rowling.

Points earned this chapter: 2

Points earned so far: 29

Chapter 17: The Heir of Slytherin

Moment 1: Tom Riddle

Oooh, it is CREEPY in here.

I can see Harry leaning over an unconscious Ginny. But in the foreground I think we are looking over the shoulder of Tom the not quite a ghost.

I’m feeling weird here. All I can do is zoom in once and then back out and I’m not finding anything to click.

Now it did unlock more info about Chamber of Secrets in the unlockable content. And this stuff is GOOOD but I still feel like this moment is incomplete.

I’m gonna come back to it.

Moment 2: The Basilisk

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAh. Don’t look in its eyes. *covers eyes*

At first all I see is Harry standing in the coils of the snake which is so huge I can’t see it’s head. He’s already got the sword in his hand, which is reassuring.

Zoom in this moment pans up, and you can see Fawkes flying about. Still haven’t reached the basilisks head yet.

Zoomed again and THERE’S IT’S HEAD!

Ewwww the eye is actively bleeding…. and it gets worse if you move your mouse towards it.

It also drools when you run your mouse near it’s mouth.

Once again nothing to collect, but I will forgive them this time because that snake is terrifying.

Moment 3: Harry Destroys The Diary

You can see Tom with his wand on Harry, who sits on the floor holding the fang.

One zoom and Harry plunges the fang into the diary and Tom vanishes.

It seems in these later chapters they sacrificed collectibles for animations. Good animations but I wish we could have both is all. Why can’t I pick up a rock in the Chamber? Or a dead rat? Okay bad suggestions but still…

Points earned this chapter: 0 (siriusly)

Points earned so far: 29

Chapter 18: Dobby’s Reward

Moment 1: Dumbledore Returns

Look, we’re in McGonagall’s office!

First thing I do is open the tartan tin on the table and take a ginger newt (object). I’m actually hungry now so I wouldn’t mind eating it…

Zoom in once and clicked on the (very bloody) sword to unlock the Sword of Gryffindoradditional content from J.K. Rowling.

I’m going to come back and read it in a few minutes, instead I’m going to finish the last couple moments first.

Zooming all the way in I collected 5 galleons from the book shelf to the right of the fire and also the Mirabella Plunkett chocolate frog card.

You can pick up the bottle of nettle wine (object) there as well.

On the middle shelf of the book shelf you can pick up a copy of Transfiguration Today (object).

This is the moment where early users had problems collecting two items (badge and needlework) and now the items are not there to collect. I will let you guys know if that changes in future, but right now I can’t get them.

Moment 2: A Free Elf

Aww, look it’s Dobby holding up a REALLY gross sock.

He holds it up and his eyes get wide when you run your mouse over him.

That’s all that’s happening here. Pretty anti-climactic. I kinda want to collect the sock, is that weird?

No video from Rowling. After the end of this chapter it just loops you back to the Gateway.

Points earned this chapter:4

Total Points Earned In Last 7 Chapters: 33 (35 if you managed to collect the glitching items in McGonagall’s office before they were taken down)

Now I’m taking a small break and I will come back to wrap up with some thoughts.

Elm’s Wrap Up

Here it is. Halloween one year after we BELIEVED Pottermore would open to the public and we’ve gotten TWO complete books up on site.
This time last year I was not as hopeful about the site as I am now. Let’s face it, Beta had been extended indefinitely and we only had POTIONS and no dueling.
Compared to that, we are doing quite well!

I enjoyed the last chapters, but must admit that the middle section (Chapters 5 – 11) was my favorite of the book. I wish (as do many of you) that the chapter inside the Chamber of Secrets had been more fruitful, but it actually makes canonical sense that we did not collect things down there. (As much as I might have wanted to keep the sword, or a basilisk fang, those have more important roles later.) Instead this section treated us to more and more ANIMATED moments that were quite breathtaking. I think we have a lot to look forward to in the next book.

My only disappointment really is the lack of a new spell that can be used in Dueling or really ANY change to the existing dueling platform. For those of you who duel for points you will understand when I say that I have grown to hate the Full Body Bind. I was so hopeful that we would be able to use spells from the new spellbook in dueling and that one of them would replace FBB as the prominent dueling spell.

No such luck this time!

I want to thank you all for reading and commenting! You guys make this fun for me, and I’m so lucky to have such great readers!

Hopefully in the coming days Pottermore will tell us a date for the awarding of the second House Cup sometime this month (November). I am already working on updating the permanent lists on the blog to include the objects, books, ingredients, and cards collected in these chapters, check the home page Welcome board for them.

With the last batch of chapters on Pottermore, a new era for potion making began. Not only did they completely redesign how the Potions game is coded, but they, for the first time ever, made brewing potions REQUIRED to get certain items to move forward through the chapters. Also, for the first time, certain ingredients for the potions MUST BE FOUND and can not simply be purchased in Diagon Alley.

I am working on a new Potions tutorial to replace Potions 101 (which is all but defunct now with the new potions) but for those of you who want to brew the new potions now I thought I would go ahead and share my experiences with each, tell you where to get your ingredients (and some workarounds for tricky ingredients to collect or use).

We will be doing this by potion, so saddle up, first up is…

Swelling Solution

A completed Swelling Solution is required to get into Snape’s private stores in Chapter 5 of Chamber of Secrets. Brewing Swelling Solution will earn you 7 points for your house.

Ingredients

Bat Spleens: collect in Book 1, Chapter 10, Moment 3 or purchase in Diagon Alley

Dried Nettles: collect in Book 1, Chapter 8, Moment 3 or in Book 2, Chapter1, Moment 2

Pufferfish Eyes: must be purchased in Diagon Alley

Steps

Use your mouse to drag two measures of nettles to the mortar. Give the cauldron a wide berth while you are doing this, the new potions has a tendency to “suck” ingredients into one of the two containers if your drag something too close to them.

Use your mouse to drag three pufferfish eyes to the mortar. Once again keeping your path away from the cauldron.

Crush these by clicking the pestle repeatedly until the meter turns green.

Drag two measures of this newly crushed material from the mortar into the cauldron.

Use the high temp button first to get your temperature into range then switch immediately to low (middle button). From there you will alternate between low heat and no heat at all (left button). Temperature moves much quicker now, so you have to be fairly focused on what you are doing every time you heat your cauldron.

Waving your wand is quite different now. Instead of just clicking on it you will click the handle and drag it around the screen to wave it. It doesn’t matter for how long you wave it, just so long as you wave it. Once you are done just release the mouse button to drop the wand.

Leave to brew for alotted time (45 minutes in copper).

After returning, drag a single bat spleen from the jar and into the cauldron.

Stir 4 times counter clockwise. Stirring is finnicky now. If you try to click and drag the spoon and nothing happens try clicking again. It seems that the spoon has blind spots that sometimes if clicked do not register. Once you have the spoon moving you want to drag the mouse in small circles around the top of the cauldron (much smaller than with the previous iteration of potions).

For this heating I would recommend you do NOT hit the high heat button. Start right on low and be prepared to immediately turn the heat back off. (If you do use high to get in range, it will be for only a moment) The window you must keep the temperature in for this is very small, so you will be alternating about once a second up and down. Try not to let it get too close to the top or bottom of the allowed range, as on some computers the temp seems to like to jump up past the limit when it gets too close.

Wave that wand again and get your 7 points!

Polyjuice Potion

Polyjuice potion is not YET required to proceed, but many of us believe it will be required to get past the coming chapters. This potion awards no house points. Unlike all other potions, this potions has two parts that are treated as two separate potions. The first part must be brewed before you can proceed with the second part.

Part 1

Ingredients

Fluxweed: must be collected in Book 2, Chapter 5, Moment 2 (many users, including myself, had problems clicking on the fluxweed. Though I could see it I could not highlight it to click on it on my computer until adjusting the zoom on my browser to 75%)

Knotgrass: collect in Book 2, Chapter 7, Moment 1 or purchase in Diagon Alley

Lacewing Flies: can be collected in Book 2, Chapter 12, Moment 2 or purchased in Diagonal Alley

Leeches: collect in Book 2, Chapter 9, Moment 2 or purchase in Diagon Alley

Steps

Drag 3 bunches of fluxweed to the cauldron. Look at the picture above to identify your ingredients. I immediately failed my first attempt at this because I picked the wrong green leafy ingredient when it asked for fluxweed. The ingredients do not match the pictures in the instructions book, as you can see.

Drag 2 bundles of knotgrass into the cauldron.

Stir 3 times clockwise. (Remember it’s smaller circles, and if it doesn’t move try to click a different spot on the spoon.)

Grab and drag your wand across the screen to wrap the first phase, release to drop.

Leave to brew for specified time (1 hour in copper)

Upon returning click and drag 4 leeches into the cauldron.

Drop 2 lacewing flies into the mortar. Here I dragged the bottle across, caught it on the edge of the cauldron and tipped it to the left to drop the flies into the mortar. They tend to come out two close together so once you see one drop lift and you will probably end up with 2.

Crush by rapidly clicking the pestle until the meter turns green.

Drag 2 measures of the now crushed flies into the cauldron.

Much like heating in the second phase of Swelling, here you will want to start with low heat and then rapidly switch between low and no heat throughout the heating process. If you use high heat in the beginning it would be for only a moment.

Wave you want one last time and drop it to complete Polyjuice Part 1.

Part 2

Ingredients

Horn of Bicorn: must be collected in Book 2, Chapter 5, Moment 3 (Swelling Solution required to access Snape’s Private stores)

Lacewing Flies: can be collected in Book 2, Chapter 12, Moment 2 or purchased in Diagonal Alley

Skin of Boomslang: must be collected in Book 2, Chapter 5, Moment 3 (Swelling Solution required to access Snape’s Private stores)

Slytherin Student Hair: must be collected in Book 2, Chapter 8, Moment 2

Steps

Drag 3 bits of boomslang skin from the jar to the cauldron.

Drag 1 measure of bicorn horn to the mortar. Note above which ingredient is bicorn and don’t ask me why you are crushing something that according to this picture seems to have already been crushed.

Crush by rapidly clicking the pestle until the meter turns green.

Drag one bunch of this now doubly crushed bicorn from the mortar into the cauldron.

This heating is not as difficult as in part one, you can use high to get in range then use low heat and no heat to bounce the temperature back and forth within the limits for 20 seconds.

Grab and drag your wand across the screen to complete this phase.

Leave to brew for alotted time (18 hours in copper).

DO NOT TRY TO POUR THE LACEWING FLY DIRECTLY FROM THE BOTTLE. Instead tip the bottle sideways on the table, flies will plop out one at a time onto the desk and then vanish, grab one from there and drag it into the cauldron. Many people have failed after hours of brewing because when they attempted to pour a SINGLE fly into the cauldron from the bottle they kept getting two or three.

Stir 3 times counterclockwise. Remember if it doesn’t move click it somewhere else on the spoon.

Drag 1 bit of Slytherin hair into the cauldron.

Drag and wave your wand to finish your potion and add it to your inventory.

Looking for items in the new chapters? They are all here in bold!

I can’t tell you how excited I am to venture past chapter 4 in the Chamber of Secrets! When we left off, Harry and the Weasleys had ventured to Diagon Alley, bought a lot of Lockhart books, and had a tense encounter with Lucius Malfoy.

Here’s how this works, as I go along I will be writing my thoughts as well as documenting the collectibles I gather along the way. If you see I’ve missed something leave a comment! I will be trying to take my time.

And now we begin!

Starting points: 27,069

Chapter 5: The Whomping Willow

Moment 1: Flying to Hogwarts

We are presented with a view of King’s Cross station and surrounding London from on high! The ford Anglia hovering above it and clouds float by.

Unlockable JK Rowling Content: King’s Cross Station unlocked by clicking on the building. I feel silly for not realizing there was a literal cross on the roof of the station…

In this moment zoom actually flies the car forward through the clouds!

We emerge over countryside with birds chirping and the faint sound of the Hogwarts Express. I can just see the tail end of it.

WE’RE GOING BACK TO HOGWARTS!

In a purple field just to the right of the car I collected root of Aconite and added it to my potions ingredients.

First point of many I hope!

Hehe, the car’s windshield wipers go when you run over it with the mouse.

Not finding anything else in this moment…

HOLY SMOKES IT’S STILL GOING!

I’m so used to only three zoom levels it surprised me. But we soared through some more clouds and came out the other side, now we clearly see the train crossing over a river.

Picked some Valerian Sprigs from the coast just to the right of the passenger side brake light.

And then I grabbed some Lavender from the small valley to the right of the train.

We must be summoning this things to be grabbing them from so high above the land.

This time when I double click to zoom, the car flies right off the screen!

Before you let your car fly off, collect the squashed dragon fly from your right headlight!

Moment 2: Crash Landing

They don’t actually show the crashing it seems.

Popped back really fast, in the field screen of the last moment I missed something.

So all I see is the dashboard of the Ford Anglia and a tree trunk. But I can hear distinctly the sounds of branches beating on the roof.

Merlin’s beard! I double clicked and a sinister looking branch cracked the windshield.

Please note that I was using Google Chrome but it just crashed on me after the tree gave me a slow uppercut.

Loaded it back up. Branch just broke the windshield. It was very loud, I jumped.

Another branch hits, sending spiderweb breaks across the glass and popping open the glove box.

Inside is a melty frog and the Joscelind Wadcock chocolate frog card.

We are really taking a beating from this tree, just knocked off the rear view.

Turns out in the melty candy in the glove compartment you can collect a toffee.

Finally I collected fluxweed to the right of the whomping willow. Pretty sure I have everything. This moment didn’t load well for me.

Moment 3: Snape’s Office

I had almost forgotten we ended up here. It is just as described. And now I’m gonna poke around in the jars around the office.

Um… some of the stuff in the jars moves. Gross.

Collected a bottle of Eels’ Eyes from the second shelf down of the right wall shelves. Had to zoom once to get it.

There are only two zoom levels here and I feel like there should be more to click on. I also feel like I want one of those sandwiches.

For those of you who haven’t noticed you can now post statuses on your Pottermore profile. I am updating mine as I go along.

OOH, just collected spine of lionfish, previously an uncollectible ingredient! Its on the third shelf down of the right shelf. Closer to the door.

THE SANDWICHES!!!

I keep gobbling (clicking) up the sandwiches and they keep coming back! Leave it to McGonagall!

Return after brewing Swelling Solution to collect Boomslang Skin and Bicorn horn.

End of Chapter 5

Point total: 27,078

Points gained so far: 9

Chapter 6: Gilderoy Lockhart

Oh goody goody. Lockhart is the kinda egomaniac you love to loath.

Moment 1: Ron Receives a Howler

Definitely at the table for breakfast, Ron’s already eaten a bit of his toast, but has been distracted by the red envelop sitting before him.

I collected a nice grey feather from next to the sugar bowl. It’s an object not a potion ingredient, just says it’s “discarded plumage”.

It’s pretty though.

Uh oh, I double clicked and now the howler is starting to steam at the corners. Is it too late to book it from the Great Hall?

Now it’s literally swelling! I think this next one should pop her.

Yup that did it!

Very explosive! Not finding anything else to collect here, am I missing something?

And now the howler is dead. Moving on!

Moment 2: Herbology

Is it me or is that mandrake part adorable part terrifying.

It doesn’t help that it screams when I run the mouse past it.

Zoomed past it and the first thing I collect is a pair of earmuffs off the corner of the counter.

The purple plant in the middle dances when you run your mouse over it.

To the right of that you can harvest more valerian sprigs.

In a giant sack on the floor I collected some dragon dung compost. Lovely. Good thing I can’t smell it.

In front of this, stuck blade down into an open bag of compost is a small trowel that you can collected.

The entire greenhouse is vibrant and beautiful. Plants are moving and swaying. It looks beautiful.

Don’t know how I found them, but there are bat wings all the way on the bottom left hand corner of the screen. They appear to be sticking out of a bucket.

Came back and retrieved protective gloves from the counter. They are lying to the left of the books.

Now I’m sure I’ve gotten it all, moving on to…

Moment 3: Cornish Pixies

Of course it’s a mini game! Wow they are making quite the racket tearing up Lockhart’s classroom.

Okay, I’m officially not the best pixie herder in the world. This might take a second.

Sounds like I missed something in Herbology, going to jump back for it. This is in no way supposed to be taken to mean I am avoiding the pixies.

I got 7 pixies in the cage within time and was awarded with the Dymphna Furmage chocolate frog card.

My biggest tip for the pixie game is that you don’t click. There is no clicking. Instead you are herding the pixies.

Basically you are chasing them towards the cage door with a stick.

If you want it to go up, put your wand under it, and over you place it on the side you want it to fly away from.

Sort of like your wand is magnetized and the pixie has the opposite charge, so it races away from the tip of your wand.

Did that make sense?

End of Chapter 6

Points total: 27,086

Points gained so far: 17

Taking a quick break to answer some comments and then its on to…

Chapter 7: Mudbloods and Murmurs

I’m back and carrying on with.

Moment 1: Quidditch Practice

Oh, poor Ron. He’s lying on the ground having belched slugs all in his lap. Malfoy is on the ground laughing.

I’ve collected knotgrass that was growing on the ground in front of Malfoy.

Ick, when you run your mouse over Ron he burps up more slugs.

ONE OF THEM IS CREEPING AWAY ACROSS THE GRASS!

Unlockable JK Rowling content “Pure-Blood” unlocked by clicking on Malfoy.

There is no zooming in this moment.

Collected the Bowman Wright chocolate frog card from on the tail of one of the Slytherin’s cloaks to the right of Malfoy.

And, should have seen this coming, you can collect horned slugs from the pile of slugs next to Ron.

Lovely.

Popped back to read the note from Professor Snape sticking out of the pocket of one of the Slytherins’ robes.

Moment 2: Lockhart’s Office

Harry is doing his detention for Lockhart. There is of course a wall of pictures of Lockhart. Lockhart himself is standing gazing out the window. I can imagine him spitting out his silly bits of advice to Harry (“Fame is a Fickle Friend, Harry”)

From atop the stack all the way to the left you can collect a signed photo of Gilderoy Lockhart. Tempted to leave that there, maybe we can give it to Hermione later.

You can also steal the round bottle of Lilac ink next to Harry’s right elbow.

And the peacock quill to go with it.

You know in case you ever wanted to dress up like Lockhart for Halloween and sign autographs as a farse.

Many of the pictures on the wall move and make sound. I particularly like the lightening.

Lockhart is standing on a Bridget Wenlock chocolate frog card. I’m liking that a lot of these names are new to me this time!

Double clicked and it got dark! Wow, Lockhart has just been standing by that window for forever!

The stack of completed envelopes next to harry grows with each passage of time. I feel like he’s looking at the back of Lockhart’s head wondering when he can leave.

End of Chapter 7

Points total: 27,093

Points earned so far: 24

A friend just sent me pufferfish eyes as a gift. I’m gonna take this as a good thing, thanks Filch.

Popped back to read the note sticking out of a pocket in the first moment.

Chapter 8: The Deathday Party

Moment 1: Nearly Headless Nick’s Party

This is the moment that for a long time partially loaded for many of us so we could see it. It’s very ethereal with all the blue white ghosts everywhere.

OOH, you can hear the music being played on saws! It’s… well it’s not very pleasant but I love the detail!

First zoom takes you through the curtain and onto the dance floor. Second zoom takes you closer to the food table on the opposite side of the room.

Peeves is peeking out from under the table, click on him for unlockable JK Rowling Content “Peeves”.

To the left of the grave shaped cake on the table you can pick up a jet black candle.

On the floor, slightly under the table cloth you will find a galleon all the way to the left edge of the table.

Alright I’ve clicked all over and zoomed in and out and if I have to hear the saws a minute longer I might cry. Moving on…

Moment 2: Enemies of the Heir, Beware

And we’ve arrived in the flooded hallway. Mrs. Norris the cat hangs frozen from a sconce and the words “The Chamber of Secretws has been opened. Enemies of the Heir, beware” are dobbed on the wall.

Double click pans to the left towards where the trio stand.

SCORE found five galleons on the ground below the left torch. Though I don’t think looting is appropriate at a time like this…

I want there to be something else to click on here, but I’m just not finding it.

Clicked on one of the torches and it blazed brighter, better illuminating the words on the wall and drawing gasps from the crowd.

Pulled a licorice wand from some kids back pocket.

And a thing of Drooble’s best blowing gum. Both of these items are essentially floating in the darkness of the crowd. I actually had to adjust my browsers zoom so that the gum wasn’t behind the read about menu.

All the way to the right on the ground next to Hermione is a cauldron cake. I also had to adjust the zoom on my browser to get this one, as Hermione wasn’t even entirely on my screen at first.

Now, finally, we move on!

Came back and collected the hair of a Slytherin student from the tallest kid in the crowd. Gee, wonder what I’ll need that for.

Haha, Hair of Slytherin. Hilarious.

End of Chapter 8

Points total: 27, 097

Points earned so far: 28

Chapter 9: The Writing on the Wall

Moment 1: The Legend of the Chamber of Secrets

Ooh, this should be good.

We’re in Professor Binns classroom. Click on him for Unlockable JK Rowling content “Hogwarts Ghosts”.

Jumping back to the last moment of the previous chapter because I missed something.

And we’re back. Double click here zooms out so that we start to see more of Binns’ classroom.

Collected the book Great Wizarding Events of the Twentieth Century from his desk.

Finally found a bean! Blech Sardines! Collected a Bertie Bott’s Sardine-flavoured Bean from a stack of books on the desk.

Zoomed out again and stole Hermione’s quill off her desk. She was too distracted raising her hand, as usual, to notice.

Found a shiny gold galleon under nicks desk.

Oh dear, now I’m nicking people’s homework off their desks, just collected The Medievel Assemlby of European Wizards homework scroll.

One of these students is totally asleep.

Collected a Bertie Bott’s Liver and Tripe-Flavoured bean from the floor to the right of the chalk board.

I think that’s everything here…

Moment 2: Moaning Myrtle’s Bathroom

So, this bathroom is filthy. The mirror looks grayish and grimy. And the faucet is dripping. I hate a drippy faucet.

I feel like this isn’t loading right. I’m not able to zoom at all, and I am finding nothing to click…

Thank you Ninjew42 and WillowFrog6067 for pointing out that I could wipe the glass clean. I feel like maybe if the site was less glitchy I wouldn’t automatically assume new functionality is browser error. LOL.

Once you wipe the mirror clean (okay, sort of clean, mine was not perfect) you can zoom into the reflection twice.

You can collect leeches from the puddle in front of the middle toilet.

Shouldn’t I be collecting Riddle’s Diary or something in here?

The bathroom door on the right hides Moaning Myrtle. In the next stall you will collect a galleon from behind a toilet.

How sanitary.

Even more sanitary, I fount a Bertie Bott’s Bogey-Flavoured Bean perched on the toilet seat in Moaning Myrtle’s stall.

End of Chapter 9

Points total: 27,105

Points earned so far: 36

Chapter 10: The Rogue Bludger

Moment 1: Moste Potente Potions

Oh my, I gasped at the title of the moment. Oh how I’ve longed and dreaded brewing potions from this book.

I clicked on Lockharts note and it turned itself in allowing me to collect Moste Potente Potions.

My inner potions fangirl is squeeing a lot right now.

Zoomed out and pulled a Bertie Bott’s Coconut-Flavoured Bean out of the garbage. It’s so shimmery. I want one, but not from the garbage…

Also in the waste basket is a Beatrix Bloxam chocolate frog card.

This basket was a treasure trove, now I’ve found a Bertie Bott’s Curry-Flavoured bean from it.

Why must the drawer open like it’s going to contain something and then it doesn’t? It faked me out!

Moment 2: Harry’s Broken Arm

Harry looks like he’s ready to fall off his broom as the rain pounds down on the Quidditch Pitch. It’s beautifully done.

Is there nothing to collect here? I zoom in and out and not seeing it. Just got the bludger zooming around like a nuisance.

Though this scene did add info to the Draco Malfoy page. So not a total loss. I’ll come back if I find out there is something here I’m missing.

Moment 3: Colin is Petrified

Cut to the Hospital wing at night where three stand over the bed of a petrified Colin Creevey.

Zoomed in and watched as Dumbledore opened Colin’s camera with a puff of smoke.

Behind him you will collect poppy heads from a vase and then open a drawer to grab the Merwyn the Malicious chocolate frog card.

Under the empty bed to the left I found a random sponge.

It’s getting late here so I really need to wrap this up soon.

End of Chapter 10

Points total: 27,112

Points earnes so far: 43

Chapter 11: The Duelling Club

Moment 1: The Diversion

Here it goes, time for me to attempt to brew swelling solution.

We didn’t find anywhere to collect pufferfish eyes so they must be purchased or gifted to you in order to brew swelling solution.

I see that swelling solution is the only potion really added to the main book, Moste Potente Potions ONLY give you Polyjuice potion.

I lied, I won’t be brewing Swelling Solution tonight. I can’t stay up 45 minutes to do it. Tomorrow though.

Moment 2: Harry and Draco’s Duel

I have to find spells and answer questions? Fascinating!

I found Expeliarmus all the way to the right by clicking on two wands near each other. It is the Disarming Charm.

I found the Tickling Charm by zooming in and clicking a wand in front of the main chair at the table. It’s Rictusempra

I found Tarantallegra where a red head is casting it over her shoulder in the middle zoom. It causes uncontrollable dancing.

I was awarded the Alberta Toothill chocolate frog card for my troubles.

And it forwards me to the end of Chapter 11 complete with an excerpt from Chapter 12.

Can anyone tell me how many points swelling solution is worth?

End of Chapter 11

Points total: 27,113

Points earned so far: 44

There are two more item points back in Snape’s Classroom that I can’t access until I successfully brew a Swelling Solution. That means there are 46 item collecting points in chapters 5 – 11 but you will end up with the points for the one potion also.

I have one person saying Swelling is worth 7 points and another 8 points. Still working on confirming but need a break for a minute first then I’ll wrap this up.

Confirmed at 7 points.

Total points doing the story including one brew of Swelling is 53 points.

And now I must go sleep a bit before work. Thank you all for journeying through this with me. Tomorrow I hope to attempt new potions. Eager to hear how many points Polyjuice is worth if you complete both parts. If you do this leave a comment here letting us know!
